WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MINERAL OIL ?

Mineral oil works by going into the intercellular spaces of the corneocytes, improving flexibility and moisture. It also forms a hydrophobic barrier on the skin surface, helping block water loss, locking in moisture and acting as an occlusive agent.

WHAT IS MINERAL OIL?

Mineral oil Is an odorless and colorless liquid mixture of hydrocarbons derived from petrolatum. It is made of paraffinics and napththenics, which determine the physical properties of the oil. It is highly refined and purified from benzene that can be toxic for the body.

IS MINERAL OIL SAFE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES AND TONES?

Mineral oil is safe for all skin types. With patients who have sensitive skin, it is better to start using it at a lower concentration and reduced frequency. Also, caution is recommended for acne-prone skin because it may trap other ingredients that can clog pores. Of note, mineral oil has been proven in studies to be non-comedogenic.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Avoid in patients with extremely sensitive skin or in those with a known allergy to this component.
