The polyphenol ellagitannins in cloudberry seed oil has shown strong antimicrobial activity, particularly against Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, the oil exhibits anti-inflammatory activity in activated macrophages and suspected antifungal activity.
Cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus) is a Nordic herb with fruit rich in polyphenols, known for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. The seed of the cloudberry plant undergoes fractionation to produce an oil containing lipids of which were designed to survive very cold temperatures.
Cloudberry seed oil is likely safe for all skin types and tones based on available data.
There are no apparent contraindications for products with cloudberry seed oil. However, individuals with allergies to cloudberries or their byproducts should use these products with caution.
